A Marxist View of Balika Vadhu Season 2

When the rumours of Balika Vadhu Season 2 started doing the rounds it was warmly welcomed by viewers like me since I have been an avid watcher of the show since the past . It was a show of my generation (2000S) . The Promo of the show was quite disturbing . If Season 1 began from the show’s protagonist Anandi Played by Avika Gor getting married as a child , Season 2 completely turned out to be the opposite of it . Season 2 began with 2 friends who want their relationship to be converted from being friends to family . What was even more disturbing since the show went on air was the fate of the girl child Anandi who has not even arrived on this planet has already been decided by her parents .

Anandi’s Uncle cum father in law Premji Played by Sunny Pancholi goes on to say a dialogue that in one household a girl is born as a daughter and for the other household it is a wife . (एक के घर बेटी तो दूसरे के घर बहू पैदा हुई है) . Anandi’s father Khimji who is the Sarpanch of the small village fixes her daughter’s marriage just before her arrival to his best friend’s family which is ironic .

The dialogues clearly convey a strong hard hitting social message to all parts of Indian Society that a Woman is nothing but a materialistic object to change relationships in future . Their only job is to connect 2 families and perform all duties as said by the male members . Balika Vadhu is more of a Marxist Show rather than a feminist since even after the birth of Anandi , The father in law performs the naming ceremony instead of Anandi’s maternal uncle . Anandi’s to be father in law also has a dream of getting his only son married to the girl for whom both families can go to any extent .

I would really be eager to watch that how does Young Anandi escape from the barriers and relations imposed on her before her birth and what measures and steps does she take to come out of her marriage or stays within it .

Balika Vadhu is produced by Sunjoy Wadhwwa and Comall Sunjoy Wadhwaa of Sphere origins and premiers from Monday to Friday at 8 Pm IST on Colors Tv.
