Remember? The Fair and Lovely Controversy Who had to instead change its name to Glow and Lovely? Why ? Why did they do that ? The ideal of Beauty is constantly changing everyday every moment according to me .
If a brand like Fair and Lovely changed its name to Glow and Lovely to avoid the notion of “Singular Ideal of Beauty” then why don’t we stop and criticise the fellow actors and actresses who promote makeup so much among the youth , that people who even hate applying makeup have started to use it , keeping in mind the social circumstances around them .
A Celebrated Indian actress has recently come into controversy for using a casteist slur in her video but upon watching the video no individual and especially women objected to what she said really made me sad . She said that without using makeup , she won’t look beautiful and look indecent . Is makeup really a true identity of any individual? makeup can only conceal the skin and not the inner dirt according to me . My question to that actress is does she mean all women like me who do not apply makeup are ugly and indecent and we don’t match up to the social standards of the society . If a women like me who refuses to apply makeup to various occasions and even on daily basis in the society is not a women In her true sense ?
I even want to interpret that not only women but men like applying makeup too which should also be acceptable to the society. Konkona Sen Sharma’s Dolly Kitty or voh chamakte sitare idealises and smashes the notion of female beauty and encourages men to pursue their dreams to apply makeup and become what they choose to be .
Dear Actresses you are celebrated figures and play a large part in motivating the society so instead of encouraging the stereotypes of wearing makeup , start encouraging people to be who they are . Let the individuals with acne , dark circles , etc not feel shy about showing off their skin that shall make any society to live in progressive and scientific.
